iPods

In the 2004 Duke university passed out iPods to every freshman student. It was called the "experiment" to see how integrating technology in schools could boost learning. After initiating the program Duke was named a "smart school". Since 2004 every incoming student does not receive an iPod. Only students whose professors advise them to have one get one. Instead of receiving them for free though they get it for 99 dollars.

In 2006 Duke had a huge drop off in the number of iPods it administered to students. In 2008 however the number had increased to its highest mark ever. The reason is many professors are coming around to having students use iPods. Many professors have pod casts that they want there students to listen to after class hours are finished. Duke though has one problem with the iPod program and that is the funds remain constant for the program. If more and more students want to find want to be able to obtain these iPods for such a good deal the university will have to seek newer funding in the future.
