Google Earth

picture of the globe
Dr. Alice Christie has been an educator for forty years. She has numerous of information to help fellow educators follow in her successful path. One of the websites she said could be of great use would be Google earth http://earth.google.com/. Google Earth is a great website to show three dimensional images of locations on earth. As a Geography teacher this would be a great tool. Instead of showing two dimensional color coded maps one can show the environment exactly how it is.

Google Earth though can also be used for other teachers as well. In the elementary education setting you could have students give a presentation on how to get to there favorite place. This three dimensional tour could both be fun and educational for students. I advise against giving directions to ones house due to the privacy issue. Allowing students to learn names of streets and places can never start to early. I know many people who drive who still can not tell me whether or not major roads go north and south or east and west.
