The speech given by Mr. Robinson was a unique speech on how current education is tries to push student's creativity to the side. This is done so that schools can focus more on mathematics, languages, and sciences. One of the reasons he says schools accomplish this is by criticizing students harshly for when they are wrong. When a student becomes fearful of becoming wrong he/she will be more cautious with trying to be more inventive. Basically what he is saying is if one is scared to make a mistake it is much harder for them to make something extraordinary.
Part of life is making mistakes just so one can rise above them. One of the best points he made was talking about the girl who was a dancer. Stating that some people wanted to give her medication and tell her to calm down. When in actuality the best thing for her was to move. I think the one thing educators fear is going against the norm. Since current educators grew up in a world where people did not express creativity often they feel they should do the same.
